The body of Pope John Paul II is now lying in state at the Vatican, where clerics and Italian dignitaries have been paying their last respects.
The pontiff's body will be brought to St. Peter's Basilica on Monday for public viewing until the funeral, which is expected to take place in a few days. Earlier, tens of thousands of mourners gathered in Rome's St. Peter's Square for an open-air mass marking the death of the Pope. The leader of the Roman Catholic Church died on Saturday evening aged 84.
