The former Israeli President Eser Weizman has died after a lengthy illness, aged 81.
During his presidency Weizman advocated peace with Arab states and was known for his forthright comments. In 2000, Weizman was forced to resign as President after relevations that in the 1980s, when he was a cabinet minister, he had received a large sum of money from a French millionaire. During World War II he was a Spitfire pilot and later became Israeli air force chief.
