US federal authorities say they have arrested a top heroin trafficker from Afghanistan who is accused of providing weapons and manpower to the former Taliban regime.
Bashir Noorzai is also accused of conspiring to import more than $50 million worth of heroin into the United States and Europe. Officials said Noorzai was traveling to New York when he was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and as much as life in prison.
